The Rundown: It’s time for all cards on the table as Catwoman finally reveals her first meeting with The Designer.
With the rest of the assassins in custody, Deathstroke is on the run and being chased by an army of drones being controlled by Harley Quinn. With Harley in pursuit of the final killer, Batman and Catwoman finally have the time they need for Selina to come clean about the mysterious Designer and his plans for Gotham City.
Selina takes Bruce back to when he first started battling crime in the city and how she and the other villains viewed him. After getting an invitation from the Designer, she, Joker, Penguin and Riddler meet with the master criminal at his home where he discusses the evolution that each villain must make if they want to take down Batman once and for all. When Designer gets into a room alone with Joker, the encounter is so disturbing that a violent fight ensues.
In the aftermath, Selina begins to tell Bruce what her plan with the Designer was and it is one that will hit him the hardest.
The Story: This chapter of the story from Tynion IV was definitely worth the build up. The interlude with the Designer was great and the back story does an awesome job of making the character interesting while also solidifying the unique evil and menace of Joker. Selina’s reveals are written with an eye towards her maturity as a character and the brilliant and personal twist at the end makes the story more engaging and interesting.
The Art: Jorge Jimenez brings some beautiful, stylish visuals to this issue. The characters and backgrounds are brilliantly detailed and there are some amazing panels throughout this issue including one with Joker that is truly disturbing.
