The Rundown: Steve and the Avengers discover the full breath of Red Skull’s plans.

Steve confronts James Stark as the military destroys the Raft to stop them. After getting a much-needed assist from Thor, the reformed Avengers manage to escape back to their hidden headquarters. After rebooting what’s left of Tony Stark, Steve attempts to plan their next steps.

Tony reveals that Red Skull is behind everything and has been using his son to take over the country. As the Avengers break into their old mansion to get information, they discover the truth about the new Avengers while Red Skull prepares to unveil himself to the world.

The Story: Zdarsky delivers an entertaining and exciting story in this issue. There are some great nostalgic elements to the story as well as great backstory, especially for Stark. I like seeing Steve return to both a leadership position as well as someone who inspires. The story has some great surprises throughout and I look forward to seeing what twists await the reader.

The Art: Acuna delivers some great art. I love the visual style and how the imagery conveys the emotion and gravitas of the story.

I’m always down for Acuna art, but the recent Avenger runs have not been that great to me. I am not enjoying the new run and Aaron’s recent run was mid at best, great ideas with middling execution. I will pick this up based on your review though.
