The Rundown: Doom attacks Avengers Mountain and T’Challa forms an alliance.

Young Thanos conveys the story of his discovery of his love of brutality while Doom prepares for his assault on Avengers Mountain. As the base’s defenses continue to fail one by one, Black Panther tries to keep the base protected but also asks what happened to Ghost Rider. With young Thanos calling for their surrender, T’Challa forms an uneasy alliance with Namor who is looking for someone to fight. While Valkyrie takes Deathlok somewhere he can be of help, Black Panther begins his preparations to face a Doom forged in the darkest magical arts.

Doom faces off against Valkyrie and finds himself dealing with something he had not considered in his plans. Things get even more interesting when Black Panther emerges with a series of defenses against Doom’s magic. As Namor continues to deal with Thanos, Deathlok reaches the brain of the mountain and discovers something dark within it. Something that could change everything for the Avengers and their world.

The Story: Aaron takes this story to some dark places and they do a good job of serving both the story and the characters. Doom is crafted to be sufficiently evil, but Thanos is given a sadistic streak that is interesting, but doesn’t seem substantive or necessary beyond shock value. The action in the story is great and I loved seeing Black Panther’s magical contingency in action. I like the cliffhanger ending a lot and look forward to what comes next.

The Art: Frigeri delivers some beautiful visuals. The art style is beautifully detailed and filled with great action and visual thrills.
