The Rundown: The fight for the Phoenix force continues as new revelations change the nature of one hero’s existence.

The Phoenix continues to pit both hero and villain against each other for the prize of wielding its power. Every fight has personal meaning for the combatants as Black Panther takes on Wolverine, Black Knight faces off against Red Widow and Valkyrie takes on Hulk. The fights get more brutal and the fighter’s motives get more intense as the battles rage on.

In the outside world, two more fighters are eliminated as the rest of the heroes not only prepare to move against the Phoenix, but take on Namor’s forces on the ground. To further complicate matters, Phoenix reveals a deeply personal secret to Thor. One that will put into question everything he has ever known about his life.

The Story: Jason Aaron does a great job of balancing all of the different storylines in this arc. Not only is there intensity and personal drama within the fights for the Phoenix Force, but the interpersonal drama with Thor is well done. The story is filled with great dialogue and the revelations made are going to make the story more dramatic as it brilliantly transitions into its conclusion.

The Art: Garron delivers some stunning art throughout the issue. The fights are filled with great details and the characters look amazing.
