The Rundown: The team appeals to ancient evil in an attempt to stop the ascendancy of a greater evil on the world.

Skinner and company find themselves face to face with a mad giant who only has one goal; to kill anyone trespassing in the lair of the Council of Firsts. As they begin what is a hopeless battle, the gift they brought to the council is accepted and they are allowed to appeal for help against the First Evil. Unfortunately, their appeal comes with a price; Skinner’s life. His former association with the Beast means that Skinner is tainted in the eyes of the council and must be killed. A proposition that makes his appeal to be a vampire again more difficult than he thought.

At the same time, the next phase of the Beast’s plans begin at the highest levels of power in the United States. With the Beast and its minions working unopposed, Skinner and the others learn of the council’s history with the ancient evil and how a past betrayal makes them unlikely to help. Fortunately for the group, there still might be a chance and the council reveals that one of them might hold the key.

The Story: Snyder gives reader some great background and character moments throughout this issue. The story is filled with humor and tension and that makes the plot and the characters more engaging. There is some awesome world building in this series and the story is so rich that I was compelled to go back and read the earlier stories highlighted in the issue. A great read with a great cliffhanger that I cannot wait to see resolved.

The Art: Albuquerque kills it with some great visuals throughout the issue. Not only is the action amazing, but the art evokes some brilliant, scary moments from the characters.
