The Rundown: Superboy goes on a mission for General Lane and faces the reality of death.

Clark continues his life in Smallville and even finds time to spend with Lana as the pair study. Even with her disapproving father watching him, Clark enjoys the time until he gets a call from General Sam Lane and rushes to meet with him. Lane tells him of a group of soldiers trapped behind enemy lines on a rescue mission and how they need his help.
Clark suits up and flies off to help the soldiers only to find an experimental weapon that affects his powers. A weapon Clark will have to find a way to destroy, but the mission comes at a cost. A cost Clark thinks about as he questions who he can talk to besides his parents.
The Story: Waid crafts an engaging story in this issue. The plot showcases the issues Clark faces growing up as a young hero trying to find a balance between his life as Clark and his obligations as Superboy. The tension between him and Lane is well done and I really enjoyed the progression of the story and the lessons he learns from the events he is connected to.
The Art: Delpeche creates some great art in the issue. It reminds me of the classic silver age comics in its character designs and visual style.
