The Rundown: Batman and his friends rescue a young assassin and face off against a friend’s mother.

In an abandoned cabin the woods outside the city, Batman pays a visit to Prion and learns that the young hero knows who he is. As he offers him help, he learns more about the young man. As he comes to the gym later prepared to tell his friends his story, he discovers that they have made him a full member of their circle. An act that will end in tragedy.

In the present, Canary tells the man’s daughter the truth about what happened to her father while her grandmother looks on and prepares to fight to keep her. As they escape, the girl learns more about her father and Batman confronts the grandmother after discovering that she is as much a victim as everyone else in the family.

The Story: Taylor crafts an engaging, thrilling and emotional story in this issue. I really enjoyed the reveals throughout the issue including the final one and what it means for the characters, especially Batman. I loved the transitions between the past and present stories and how they inform each other in the minds of the characters and the mystery in this arc continues to pay off in new and interesting ways.

The Art: Janin offers some amazing art throughout the issue. Not only do I love the character designs and details on every page, but the imagery allows for some great emotional moments for the reader.
