Marvel Comics

Written by Gail Simone

Letters by Clayton Cowles

The Rundown: The X-Men battle an alien threat that is more than it seems.

Monet and her allies continue their interrogation of the head of security from Graymalkin Prison. The man reveals the depth of their plan to turn the prisoners into their own version of Wolverine and sold to the highest bidder. In Louisiana, Nightcrawler and MacKenzie are trapped on an alien vessel and unable to communicate with their captors. Kurt finds himself looking for a way to escape while the rest of the team continue to watch over the kids.

As the kid continue to enjoy the dance, Ransom and The Vig are fighting for their lives against Brood aliens heading towards the gym. When the aliens arrive, they attack both groups and the X-Men are forced to fight alongside Mutina who discovers something interesting about the invading alien forces and their connection to the Brood and the school.

The Story: Simone crafts a fun, thrilling and entertaining story in this issue. The story has some great action moments throughout, but also great moments of growth for the characters. I like the mystery of the alien invaders and how Mutina just showed up again to be part of the team. I also really love the side story with Nightcrawler and what Monet and the others are discovering about the prison.

The Art: Towe and Baldeon create some beautifully detailed and visually exciting art throughout the issue. Both visual styles complement each other well and I love seeing Baldeon working with Simone again after their Domino team up.
