The Rundown: Sarah Archer stands in judgement and delivers her tale.

Standing among the fires of hell with the Horseman preparing to pass sentence on her, Sarah Archer begins to tell her story. She recounts her life as a child with her twin sister and parents living on the land owned by the Van Garrett family. She sees her first moments of violence between her parents and what her mother does in vengeance for that act.
Turned away from the town after her father’s death, the family is forced to move to a cave in the Western Woods where more violence follows causing Sarah to resort to it herself to protect her and her sister. When the girls come upon the violent Hessian soldier escaping in the woods, Sarah makes a decision that will change her life forever.
The Story: Dawson crafts a thrilling, dark and engaging story in this issue. I like revisiting this world as a fan of the original film and the story fleshes out so much of Sarah’s life and motivations. The story is off to a great start and filled with a dark tone that kept me engaged with both the world and the characters. I look forward to seeing what happens in the next issue.
The Art: Jaro crafts beautifully detailed and visually rich art throughout the issue. The imagery beautifully captures the dark tone of the story.
