The Rundown: Bringing together mutant teams becomes more difficult in the wake of Krakoa.
Emma Frost decides its time to unveil her newest plan to bring mutants together as she reaches out to a set of them from different teams to invite them to Graymatter Lane, a new school and training facility for mutants located in a telepathic plane that only mutants can access. After recruiting members of multiple teams to act as teachers, the new students are shown around the community while the proposed faculty meets to discuss the school.
Unfortunately, not all the veterans are on board with the plan with Cyclops being the most vocal objector given the history of mutants gathering in large groups. The new Danger Room has its own issues when one of the students goes feral and attacks another and Kitty discovers something familiar at a former Sinister lab they have been ransacking for equipment and Scott decides that the new school might have to learn a harsh lesson.
The Story: Ewing crafts a fun, interesting and entertaining story in this issue. I like seeing a way forward for the mutants and Emma’s idea is an engaging and intriguing one. Unfortunately, I lean more towards the pessimism of Cyclops given the history of the X-Men and their recent runs. I am interested in seeing where this goes and how far it can, but I am waiting for the inevitable disaster to strike and that keeps me engaged.
The Art: Palma creates some beautifully detailed and visually stunning art throughout the issue. I really like the visuals and character designs.
