The Rundown: Owl Man and Ultraman are on the hunt for something special on Earth-3.
The past is revealed as the origin of the villain known as Owl-Man comes to light. Years later, he calls Ultraman to make a proposition that could give them control of not only their own cities, but Earth-3 itself. Owl-Man has discovered something STAR Labs has been hiding and he and Ultraman go on the hunt for it.
Their first stop is Niles Caulder and his Doom Syndicate. When they prove unhelpful, the duo give him a harsh lesson in disobedience. Their next stop is Will Magnus who attempts to stop them using his Metal Men causing Ultraman to call in some help from his wife and her powers. As the three break into Magnus’ lab, they discover something unexpected.
The Story: Waid creates a dark, thrilling and entertaining story in this issue. I love that the story is focused on Earth-3 and centered on Ultraman and Owl-Man. I loved the reveal of Owl-Man’s origin story as well as the Earth-3 versions of other characters including the Doom Patrol and the Metal Men. The Talon reveal was really interesting as well and I really enjoyed the twist at the end and what it means for the story going forward.
The Art: To creates some beautifully detailed and visually exciting art throughout the issue. I really love the character designs and the action.
