The Rundown: Mutina returns to test the X-Men in a deadly standoff.

Kurt is on a date with MacKenzie when she decides she wants to see what his powers do. When he teleports her back to Haven, he is unaware that it is a ruse to spring a surprise birthday party on him. While they celebrate, Logan discovers that Mutina has returned and she wants to join the X-Men, but her motivations are clear to him and the rest of the group when she threatens to kill MacKenzie.
Kurt decides to test her in a way that only he can. Arriving alone, the two battle it out and Kurt shows her that her power is no match for his skill. Kurt knows he is fighting someone living in true darkness, but his need to give everyone grace might be the last mistake he ever makes.
The Story: Gail Simone delivers a stunning, fun and intense story in this issue. I really love the premise of the story and its focus on both Wolverine and Nightcrawler and their ideas about Mutina as a person. I love the unhinged nature of the character of Mutina and how she still remains a mystery and I love the commentary Simone is making with the character, her motivations and general personality. I love this group of characters and cannot wait to see what Simone has in store for them.
The Art: Marquez delivers some beautifully detailed and visually gorgeous art throughout the issue. From the character designs to the environments, everything looks amazing.
