The Rundown: Jack fights to save his daughter as a group of survivors discovers something strange in the town.

Jack finds himself in a standoff with a group of survivors after one of them shoots his zombie husband. As he thinks back on both his relationship with his husband and their life with their daughter, his instinct to protect forces him to take one of the survivors at gunpoint to prevent them from shooting his infected child.

The three flee into town as the survivors go after them and they discover that the zombies roaming the streets seem to not only be well fed, but performing tasks as if they are still alive. Jack negotiates the release of his hostage but an act he cannot control will lead to more violence and a dark revelation.

The Story: Brombal does a fantastic job of building the world of this story and creating a compelling mystery to go with it. It transcends the zombie genre with a personal story of love and loss while also creating a mystery with the behavior of the zombies in the town. I like how the story balances Jack’s inner turmoil from his past and his present actions. It’s going to be interesting to see where this story goes next.

The Art: Phillips craft some beautifully detailed and visually haunting art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this series and how dramatic the characters and environments work together.
