Fans of the revived X-Files limited series have one more season with the embattled hero Danny Scully.

Gillian-Anderson

Gillian Anderson, the actress who played the character of Scully for nine seasons on Fox before returning for a tenth and now upcoming eleventh season, has confirmed that this season will be her last. Season 11 of the X-Files will mark the 25th anniversary of the series created by Chris Carter and Anderson has not been shy about telling people that she will be leaving the series.

Anderson told TV Insider, “I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me. I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was this was a single season.” When Anderson agreed to return for the 10th season of the series, she explained her decision. “It didn’t feel like we necessarily delivered everything the fans were expecting of us last time.” Many people believe that she was talking about the last X-Files feature film The X-Files: I Want to Believe, which departed from the conspiracy roots of the series and instead focused on a totally unrelated storyline.

Anderson’s decision to have season 11 be her last hopefully means that fans of the series will get a satisfactory conclusion to the storylines that we have been following for the last 25 years. I want to believe.

The X-Files Season 11 will premiere on Fox January 3, 2018.
