Kong: Skull Island has blasted into the multiplex and managed to unseat Hugh Jackman’s powerhouse Wolverine finale as the top film in the country. With that in mind, the studios as gearing up for the sequel and putting together an impressive team to bring it to life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers have gotten together a writing room to begin planning and plotting a sequel to Kong that will have the great ape take on the King of Monsters himself Godzilla. Kong has already scored over $140 million in its opening weekend worldwide and shows no signs of stopping as it draws in audiences and critics who have praised the nostalgic feel of the film.
If the writing room they’ve gathered is any indication, we may be seeing a truly amazing big screen beat down for these two giant monsters. The room will include Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer (The Kingkiller Chronicles), T.S. nowlin (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Jack Paglen (Alien: Covenant), Cat Vasko (Queen of the Air) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) and will be led by Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean).
While we wait for whatever they put forth from the room, we will be getting the Godzilla sequel Godzilla: King of Monsters on March 22, 2019.
