Season 1 Episode 6

All-New Halloween Spooktacular

So we’ve jumped in time again to the 90’s with the new episode of WandaVision and the opening credits relay that this new season of the show is going to have the look and feel of a Disney Channel family show complete with quick cuts and talking directly to the camera. To make things even more special, it’s Halloween in Westview and in that tradition Wanda decides to dress up in an outfit that is sure to please fans of the comic book character.

The humor is a little rough, but within the one-liners are deeper meanings for Wanda especially who is dealing with the unexpected changes having her brother in the house means. Things get even weirder when Wanda’s hold on Vision continues to deteriorate and his actions become uniquely off-script. This allows Pietro to pick up the slack, but you can tell things are off in the Vision household.

Things get even more intense in the real world where the division between Monica and Hayward takes a dramatic turn. One that will add new and unknown stakes to the story and the characters. We also get to see Jimmy Woo be badass and it was handled brilliantly.

Wanda continues to question her “brother” and the trick or treat scene is really interesting, especially the “kick-ass” line. Vision decides to take to the streets of Westview on a mission of his own as the streets are filled with children. There is a lot of disturbing imagery in Vision’s walk and that moment adds to dark turn the series has been gradually taking. A turn that culminates in a face off between Wanda and Pietro about why he’s there and how he came.

At the same time, Vision moves beyond the confines of his block and starts to investigate the real Westview as well as what’s happening to the residents of the town the closer they get to the boundary. The whole scene is a spooky, surreal nightmare that leads to Vision learning a harsh truth. More truths are revealed in the real world to Monica as she attempts to re-enter the Hex, a scene that is pure foreshadowing for her role in the future of the MCU.

The episode comes to a harrowing conclusion as Monica and Jimmy look for a way in, Pietro confronts Wanda about the drastic and unexpected changes in her powers and Vision attempts to breach the barrier. All three scenes are filled with dramatic tension that culminates into a beautifully done cliffhanger that has the potential to change everything going forward. This series gets better and better with each episode and this on had some great moments of mystery, discovery, pain and suspense throughout.
