With Graves’ betrayal, the Destiny Man has the entire team captive. As he tells the captives of his vision of the United States and why he wants passage to the Spiral, Valentina Sandoval will reveal she knows more about their mission than all of them.

Starting from her recruitment, the journalist has had questions about the mission and her place on it. As the ship that carried them steamed to the states, she uncovered more about their mission and more importantly, why this particular team of people was chosen for it. As she reveals more to her team, including the fact that one of them has a secret of her own, she’s secretly working on a plan to escape as Graves races to give Uncle Sam what he needs to enter the Spiral himself.

The Story: Another powerful and entertaining issue from Soule and Snyder. The characters continue to be dynamic, especially Sandoval who is becoming a favorite of mine and the plot continues to unfold brilliantly with its mix of present day action and prologue scenes. The dialogue is fantastic and the story continues to unfold with some engaging twists and turns that keep me fixated and intrigued about where the story goes next.

The Art: Camuncoli and Orlandini deliver some stunning visuals in this issue. The backgrounds and beautifully rendered and the characters look amazing. The Destiny Man is given a visual menace that draws the eye and all of the strange and unique aspects of this new America keep me engaged.
