The Rundown: Inmate X prepares to escape as the mutants fight for their lives against unusual threats.
Corina watches as the man she loves dies in the infirmary and knowing what comes next makes her afraid, but not for the reason one would think. At the same time, the Outliers are still fighting a new type of Sentinel alongside some strange versions of the X-Men led by someone they were not expecting. As they fight, one of the kids falls and Mutina discovers the truth about these X-Men.
At Haven House, Rogue and the others confront the New Mutants without trying to escalate tensions. Unfortunately, Gambit’s arrival will force a confrontation between the two groups while security at Graymalkin fails, Monet and the others are freed and Inmate X emerges and reveals a connection to not only what Rogue and her team are dealing with, but a personal connection to Corina herself.
The Story: Simone crafts a dark, thrilling and entertaining story in this issue. All the plot elements come together brilliantly with drama that kept me engaged with every reveal. I continue to be impressed with how Simone balances the different dramas happening within the story while making every part of it feel not only suspenseful, but necessary for the entire series to work. There were no wasted moments throughout this story and each part of it makes me excited to see what happens next and where this story will go.
The Art: Vecchio delivers stunning art throughout the issue. Everything from the action to the character designs is beautifully detailed and visually exciting.
