The Rundown: Logan and Ransom infiltrate a comic convention to rescue a young man about to commit a terrible act.
Ransom and Logan confront members of a terrorist group before finding themselves in front of the barrel of a gun held by Valentin’s father. A father who refused to pay for Valentin’s release years ago and now needs him to help find the son he actually cares about.
After a tense standoff, the pair head to a local convention where Valentin’s brother is about to commit an act of terror until he changes his mind. Unfortunately, the man in charge and his fellow members try to complete the mission as Ransom decides to show them how powerful he has become as an X-Man.
The Story: Simone crafts a story filled with fun moments for the characters. I like how the story is broken up between Ransom’s story and Deathdream’s lighter story back at home. Deathdream’s story is a fun aside, but its inclusion took time Ransom’s story needed to evolve. Things happened too fast and none of it was particularly satisfying. Ransom’s confrontation with his brother fell flat and as much as I loved the buildup to someone confronting Ransom’s father, the execution of the moment felt weak and unsatisfying.
The Art: Vecchio delivers stunning art throughout the issue. I love the character designs and the visual thrills of the action a lot.
