The Rundown: The hunt for a clone of Reed Richards is interrupted by a rampaging Namor under the control of his monstrous double.

As the new Avengers led by Bucky hunt for the location of the dangerous clone of Reed Richards, Namor attacks and commands them to stop him as he is under the control of his clone known as Imperius Rex. After fighting him off, he returns to the sea where the clone has not only evolved but grown bigger and more powerful.

When Rex decides to emerge from the sea and take over the surface world, Bucky and his team decide to abandon their mission and try to stop him with the help of Carnage. As the team fights both Imperius Rex and Namor, the former king of Atlantis must reconcile who he is before his power is used to destroy the world.

The Story: Humphries crafts a fun, entertaining story in this issue. There are a lot of elements of this arc that I am enjoying, but I wonder if this title has any real legs to stand on after it’s over. I find it hard to care about this team and their interpersonal dynamics are not that interesting either. The drama feels forced at times, but the action is fun throughout the issue. Hopefully there will be something in the next issue that signals that this is a title worth consistent reading.

The Art: Palma creates some great visual moments throughout the issue. The action is definitely the highlight of this story and the art has an almost classic 90’s feel to it.
