With IT Chapter 2 dominating the box office and the upcoming Doctor Sleep getting ready to terrify audiences this November, Stephen King adaptations are continuing their popularity both on the big and small screen.
Josh Boone’s adaptation of Stephen King’s epic The Stand has already started gathering an impressive cast with the additions of James Marsden, Amber Heard and more. Now it’s been announced that two more stars have joined the CBS All-Access adaptation. According to reports in IMDB and Collider, actors Alexander Skarsgard and Whoopi Goldberg have been cast in the upcoming series as the evil Randall Flagg and the servant of good, Mother Abigail.
Randall Flagg becomes the personification of evil on Earth after a man made plague wipes out 99% of the population. Those immune to the plague break off into two camps led by the ruthless Randall Flagg and the benevolent Mother Abigail. Abigail Freemantle represents the interests of God in the story and she is used to bring people together to let them stand against Flagg and his plans.
Alexander Skarsgard is known for his roles on series like True Blood and Big Little Lies as well as films like The Legend of Tarzan and Long Shot (Skarsgard’s brother Bill Skarsgard is scaring audiences in another Stephen King adaptation as the murderous clown Pennywise in IT Chapter 2). Whoopi Goldberg is an Academy Award winning actor best known for roles in films like Sister Act, Ghost and The Color Purple. She can currently be seen as one of the co-hosts of the daytime series The View.
Josh Boone is co-writing and directing The Stand for CBS All-Access.
