We get our first look at who this team of Immortal Men is at the beginning of this issue with each getting a short back story courtesy of the villains of this issue. We learn that team is made up of Reload, Timber, Ghost Fist and Stray. I like how their abilities are called “impurities” by the bad guys. I hope it’s a narrative thread that gets followed more in-depth as the stories continue.

The-Immortal-Men-2-Preview-1

In the midst of the battle, Caden Park manages to escape and goes on the run. He manages to make his way to the surface where he encounters a yellow cab and starts making his way home. Things start to get weird when he realizes that the cab driver seems to know a lot about him, including his name. As the weight of what is happening starts to manifest to Caden, he’s rescued by his parent’s bodyguard.

There’s some great art in this issue. Benjamin seems to be doing a good approximation of Jim Lee’s style, but it’s not mimicking. This allows the story to continue without being distracted by a radical change in the art style. Tynion seems to be building a really impressive world of characters and history that is compelling, especially with the mixture of action thrown into this issue.

The end of this issue is definitely worth reading. There is a really well done set of panels that show some real tragedy for Caden and the story pulls no punches in getting to the heart of the tragedy.
