Award winning writer/director Taika Waititi is heading back to a galaxy far far away.
According to an exclusive in The Hollywood Reporter, the Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director has been tapped by Lucasfilm to co-write and direct a new Star Wars film. Krysty Wilson-Cairns, Oscar nominated writer of 1917, has been hired to co-write the script with Waititi.
The project was announced on Star Wars official website, but there are no details on what the new film will be about. With the recent conclusion of the Skywalker saga with The Rise of Skywalker, the universe is wide open for new stories set in the Star Wars universe. Waititi is no stranger to the Star Wars universe himself with his role as former assassination droid IG-11 on the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian. Waititi also directed the eighth episode of the popular series.
Taika Waititi’s next acting role will be in the upcoming Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds and his next directing projects include the soccer film Next Goal Wins and the fourth Thor movie for Marvel Studios Thor: Love and Thunder.
