The Rundown: In the midst of the Pykkt invasion, the mystery deepens and more questions linger.

The Pykkt invasion of Earth has begun and the Justice League is spread throughout the world fighting to stop the first wave of invaders. As noble as the heroes fight, there are huge losses and the strategy of the enemy and their motives prompts Batman and Mr. Terrific to look for answers. Answers that can only come from a living Pykkt prisoner. After capturing one of them and putting their considerable brains together to communicate with the creature, the heroes discover that there is a direct connection between the invasion and a secret Adam Strange is hiding from everyone.

At the same time, Adam contemplates life back home with his wife and daughter and how he is finding it harder and harder to cope after his experiences with the Pykkt. When he is called in to give insight on his experience and question a prisoner, Adam does something (no pun intended) strange. With his new unpredictable attitude, the events that led to the death of his daughter begin to play out.

The Story: A great continuation of an already engrossing and epic story from Tom King. I continue to be impressed with the plot, the characters, the twists and every revelation made in this story, especially this issue. King does a great job of making the story suspenseful and keeping the reader engaged with it while also adding elements of humor and charm. The contrast between the invasion storyline and Adam’s emotional descent are done brilliantly.

The Art: Both Mitch Gerads and Evan “Doc” Shaner bring some beautiful imagery to this issue. The contrast between the gritty, dark and brilliantly detailed pages from Gerads and the classic style and amazing details of Shaner’s pages grab me visually as a reader.
