Another Stephen King adaptation is on the way from Paramount Pictures and it looks the production is moving with the announcement of casting for two of the main leads.

Paramount Pictures is producing a remake of the Stephen King novel Pet Semetary for the big screen. The story revolves around Louis Creed and his family moving from the city to a small town where he discovers a hidden burial ground that resurrects the family pet after it’s struck by a car. When a similar tragedy befalls the family’s young son Gage, Louis decides to use the burial grounds again. The results of his actions are a nightmare for everyone involved.

Jason Clarke has been cast in the role of Louis Creed. Clarke is known for his roles in films like Zero Dark Thirty, Mudbound, Chappaquiddick and Winchester. Dale Midkiff (Dexter) originally starred in the role.

Two-time Oscar nominee, Golden Globe and Emmy winner John Lithgow has been cast as Creed’s neighbor Jud Crandall in the film. Crandall lives next door to the Creed’s and knows about the Pet Semetary, enough to know that the place is not what it seems. The original 1989 film starred Fred Gwynne (The Munsters). Lithgow recently won an Emmy for his role as Winston Churchill on Netflix’s The Crown.

Pet Semetary will be written by David Kajganich (The Terror), Matt Greenberg (1408) and Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) and directed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes).
