The Rundown: The Enterprise finally manages to communicate with Bright Eyes right before the Tholian’s spring another web.
The unknown entity among the Tholian Assembly is slowly preparing them for war with the Federation. Playing on their fears of the expansion of Starfleet, the Tholian’s react openly when reminded that Kirk has one of their own.
After finally finding a way to communicate with Bright Eyes, Kirk and Spock attempt to learn more about Tholian society and how the colony it came from was killed. Communication goes well, but when the Tholian’s drop a new web in front of the Enterprise, the crew finds themselves trapped with another ship unable to escape its grasp.
The Story: Lanzing and Kelly strike the right tone for this story. Everything works from the characterizations to the pace of the plot. The writing definitely captures the feel of a classic episode of the series and the story is written well enough that you can almost hear the cadence of the actors voices as you read. A fun continuation that makes me interested in seeing where the story goes next.
The Art: Stephen Thompson has some beautiful visuals in this issue. I love the way the characters look and the backgrounds are filled with impressive details.
