The device slipped to Star that she thought would help her turns out to be a trap and Corvus unfortunately becomes its victim. The rest of the Order prepares to attack, but a last minute save from Wanda manages to hold them back long enough for the three women to form a plan. With Carol and Wanda taking the lead, a furious Star decides to make her own deal with the Black Order.

The Order decides to listen to Star with the promise that she free Corvus. With their member back, Star decides to take matters into her own hands and end the conflict on her terms. With both sides separated, Star takes the first steps down a dark path she’s forging on her own.

The Story: Kelly Thompson ends this limited series on a dark note and that is what makes it work. Star’s journey doesn’t lend itself to a traditional hero arc and Thompson showcases that in the conflict between Carol and Ripley. Carol is pushing her to be the hero she thinks she can be while ignoring the person Ripley is. The scene where Carol and Wanda ignore her while making plans to save her is an awesome way for Thompson to solidify the character’s conflicts and why she makes the decision she does.

The Art: Pina and Andrade deliver some beautiful visuals throughout this issue. The characters look amazing and the detailed backgrounds are stunning. Both artists bring some great moments for a character-centric issue.
