The Rundown: Speed looks for answers and ends up in a race against Racer X for the Mach 5.
With things becoming more fraught for the Racer family, Speed thinks back to his brother and wishes he were there for the family now. Determined to get answers, Speed takes off to go find the members of the Car Acrobatic Team and discover who attacked Pops in his garage. After going to a local bar, he confronts the team members not knowing that someone else is there watching him.
After a bar fight, Racer X rescues Speed and challenges him to a race for the Mach 5 itself. After Speed shows some impressive moves, he ultimately loses the race and the car. Unfortunately, he doesn’t lose the Mach 5 to Racer X, it is stolen by a master thief who is unaware that Spritle is hiding within it.
The Story: Pepose crafts a fun, thrilling and intense adventure in this issue. I love the developing dynamic between Speed and Racer X as well as the flashback moments between the two characters. I love the stakes involved in this issue and how fun the action and adventure is throughout the issue. Pepose truly captures the fun, thrills and tone of Speed Racer and his world.
The Art: Tinto brings some gorgeous, lush and visually thrilling art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this series and how it captures emotions, action and suspense.
