Frank Miller created the comic book series Sin City in 1991 and the popular series was made into two films starting in 2005. Now there’s news about the rights to the series and who they belong to.
According to multiple sources, including The Hollywood Reporter, writer/artist Frank Miller has reacquired the rights to his creation. The Weinstein Company held the rights to the series initially, but the bankruptcy sale to Lantern Capital does not include the series after Miller objected.
Lantern and Miller reached a settlement where Miller will regain the rights to the first Sin City movie. The 2015 Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was not part of the deal. Miller has the right to adapt Sin City to television as well with the deal. With the film and television rights back in the hands of the creator, it will be interesting to see where the Sin City franchise goes from here.
