The Boys is the landmark comic book series from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The series was first published in 2006 and Amazon Studios has added the series to its upcoming lineup of new shows and fans of the series got a huge surprise at this year’s New York Comic Con.

New York Comic Con 2018 - Day 2

For anyone who has read the series, the character Wee Hughie Campbell has a connection to action Simon Pegg. The youngest recruit of the group, Ennis and Robertson based him off the actor, who had just starred in Shaun of the Dead. When live action versions of the comic were talked about, Simon Pegg’s name was always mentioned for the role. With Amazon Studios getting the series, Pegg came out on stage during the panel for the new series and revealed that he is a part of the show, but not in the way fans think.

Simon Pegg is a little too old to play Wee Hughie Campbell, so he will be playing Hughie’s father in the new series. Pegg will join fellow Star Trek alum Karl Urban on the series about a group of people who go to war against superheroes when one carelessly kills Hughie’s girlfriend. The Boys is produced by Evan Goldberg and Eric Kripke.

The Boys will debut on Amazon in 2019.
