In a world of sword and sorcery, a young warrior named Amala questions.

As the commander of the city’s defenses reminds the warriors of their duty to defend the city against the invading army, Amala questions why. She wants to know why they must take on the enemy in a straightforward fight.

Why can’t they mount a guerilla war from the woods? All of these questions become moot when she reminds those with her that it isn’t her place to question orders.

In the wake of the slaughter of her forces, Amala awakens to a scene of horror and death. The only person she is then greeted by is Prince Brycemere and his Firemancer Tomlin. Amala joins the prince on his quest to slay the wizard responsible and everything gets stranger from there with moments of supernatural resurrection that allow Amala to relive moments over and over in order to change things. It’s an odd gift that only gets stranger when she and the Prince finally confront the wizard Teronak and everything in Amala’s world is finally revealed.

This is an intensely fun first issue that had me engaged throughout to the point where I was pleasantly surpised with the twist at the end of the issue. I did not see it coming, even from the beautifully drawn cover. It adds an interesting and multi-layered meaning to everything that happened throughout the issue and sets up some really interesting stories to explore going forward. I look forward to seeing where this story goes next.

The art in the issue is amazingly detailed and all of the action scenes are well rendered.
