According to a report from THR, Quentin Tarantino has reached out to Star Trek reboot director and producer JJ Abrams to collaborate on a new Star Trek film for the Kill Bill director to helm. Tarantino expressed his interest in directing a Star Trek feature on an episode of the Nerdist podcast and talked about his love of the original series in 2015.

According to the report, Tarantino and Abrams are assembling a writers room to develop the project for Paramount with Abrams staying on to produce while Tarantino directs. Paramount is currently in development on a fourth rebooted Star Trek feature starring Chris Pine with Chris Hemsworth returning as George Kirk, but no director is currently attached. The last film, Star Trek Beyond, was well received by critics and fans and was directed by Justin Lin.

Tarantino’s next project is an untitled Charles Manson movie due out in 2019.

“The last film, Star Trek Beyond, was well received by critics and fans and was directed by Justin Lin.”

That’s as maybe, but it made Paramount a $40m loss.

I’d certainly be interested in QT’s directorial take on Star Trek, but not with the current reboot cast, or with that hack Abrams anywhere near the project.
