The Rundown: Jennifer becomes more immersed in the politics of Sakaar when a powerful warrior declares himself king.
After his new bride is murdered on their wedding night, Korven Blackjaw declares himself king of Sakaar. When She-Hulk objects to his declaration and the potential murder of a witness, she finds herself unable to prevent events from continuing. Her frustration leads to some surprising revelations and insights from Juno and she decides to learn more about events on the planet.
One of the opposition leaders on the planet, Quade receives a visit before Korven takes to the streets to declare his new position to the people. Quade and his people stand opposed and Jennifer watches as things begin to escalate. Unfortunately, what should be a conflict between the two factions is interrupted by a third who is bringing some powerful weapons with them.
The Story: Phillips crafts an engaging, compelling and entertaining story in this issue. I love that Jennifer is immersing herself in the mystery and culture of the planet after spending so much of the first issue trying to leave it. The story has some great intrigue in it as well and the Juno fight delivers great insight and exposition that captured my attention as well as the character’s. I like the complicated politics of the planet and look forward to seeing where the story goes next.
The Art: Kuder and Hanna deliver stunning art throughout the issue. From the character designs to the action, everything has a wonderfully detailed, alien look and vibe that works for the story and the world of it.
