The Rundown: Duncan will make a bold play to save his Gran’s life and it will involve confronting both his mother and Arthur himself.

Making what his grandmother believes to be a stupid mistake, Duncan grabs her dying body and re-enters Otherworld while Rose deals with the authotiries and literally keeps the candle burning for them. With Excalibur in hand, the reluctant knight returns to the castle to witness his mother and half-brother be scolded for their failure.

Duncan strikes a bargain with the undead Arthur. A bargain that will secure Duncan the belt of healing that will save his grandmother’s life. After cutting through the undead knights with the sword and healing Gran, Duncan tries to save his mother. When Gran tells the undead king more of his story that he’s forgotten, the king goes mad and lashes out, giving them time to escape, but will all of them make it out alive?

The Story: Riveting, exciting and consistently entertaining, Gillen continues to blend magic, mysticism and charm into a story filled with dynamic characters and action. I love the direction this story is taking and the evolution of Duncan as a character is fantastic. His character arc is one that continues to be engaging to the reader as he serves as our eyes and ears in this world of discovery and magic. All of the story threads are woven together brilliantly and this continues to be a series I anticipate every month.

The Art: Dan Mora’s art is gorgeous. Every page is filled with glorious details and both the characters and action are brilliantly brought to life. A beautiful looking issue.
