The new SyFy series Krypton, based on the DC Comics world of Superman, released a new trailer in San Diego and some plot details that are interesting to say the least.

While many wondered if there was any need for a series chronicling the life of Superman’s grandfather, DC Comics chief Goeff Johns laid out some information that actually broadens the world of the series and plants its feet firmly in the DC Comics universe.

One of the first details to emerge, which got an audible gasp from the crowd, is that even though the series takes place in the past, it is prompted by a conspiracy in the present. Apparently, this conspiracy will seek to erase Superman’s legacy from existence by changing events in the past that effect the House of El.

Another detail that is interesting on many levels are the two heroes dispatched to the past to stop the conspiracy. One of the long running storylines in DC Comics has been the war between the Thanagarians and the Rann. In the new series Krypton, Hawkwoman (a Thanagarian) and Adam Strange (Rann) must work together to save Superman’s legacy and uncover the conspiracy at the heart of it. The pairing of these two characters promises some interesting drama.

The final detail that emerged is that both Doomsday and Brainiac will appear on the series as well as other iconic DC Comics characters. Could we see the television version of a member of the Green Lantern Corps, Booster Gold or any other space and time based DC Comics characters? It’s entirely possible given this information.

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Krypton premieres in 2018 on SYFY.
