The Rundown: Miss Truesdale is called in to listen to a story that will change her life.

Miss Truesdale is called in to have an audience with the Queen of the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra in Paris. As she sits with the woman, she is told that the story she is about to hear was not meant for man.

Truesdale hears a story from the ancient city of Hyperborea. A story about a warrior who overcame her circumstances to become the people’s champion in the fighting pits. A warrior who tells of her struggle to overcome. A warrior with a direct connection to Miss Truesdale.

The Story: An entertaining and engaging first issue with a great twist within it. Mignola is a master at crafting new, interesting and engaging worlds and this issue is no different. I became immediately immersed in the story and its connections to the characters. I loved the twist revealed in the issue and how it connects to Miss Truesdale. Mignola lays the groundwork for a fantastic and epic fantasy adventure with characters and situations that I want to see explored.

The Art: Lonergan delivers some great art throughout the issue. I love how the visual style and how the past and present stories complement each other visually.
