The Rundown: A warrior of the gods defies death as the others prepare for war.

Elspeth Tirel was the campion of the god Heliod and she served her god by striking down another only to be betrayed and killed by her patron after the love of her life died by her hands. As she lays dying in a world between worlds, Heliod raises up a new champion with a different mission. A mission that will get the attention of the other gods of the pantheon.
As Elspeth finds herself reliving her own pain, her eyes open and she finds herself in the presence of a dark an unknown world. The gods gather to plan their next move as Heliod’s champion defiles their images and steals their worship. As they call forth their own champions, Elspeth prepares to find the soul of the man she loved.
The Story: Watters delivers a solid, engaging story in this first issue. The story has a fantastic buildup of tension throughout and brilliantly lays out the characters and conflicts for both new readers and those familiar with this world. There are some interesting and unexpected surprises throughout the story and the events build to a great cliffhanger ending that makes me excited to see what happens next.
The Art: Gieni delivers some beautifully detailed imagery throughout the issue. I love the style of the art and how it captures the tone and mood of the story.
