The Rundown: The kids discover something that will change their lives forever.

In the early 1930’s, Ronnie and Raymond are riding the rails in Nebraska when their lack of food or provisions leaves them vulnerable to a mysterious man who offers them more. In the present, the twins and some of the others gorge themselves on the body of a man they discovered and they begin to question if what they’ve been told about the world is true.

At the same time, the girl Romie saved wants answers about what happened to her father. Instead she finds herself with Yui and Lucas. Billy finds something that gets the other kids moving and they descend on a camp of survivors. An attack that not all of them will survive.

The Story: Lemire ups the stakes in this issue and it works really well. I love the pacing of the story and how it showcases the backstory of the twins before transitioning into the present. I love the tension throughout the narrative and how the story takes an unexpected and dark turn towards the end.

The Art: Dustin Nguyen delivers some beautifully dark and detailed art throughout the issue. The wonderful contrast between the characters and their environment beings every character moment to life. A wonderful looking issue from start to finish.
