The Rundown: Superman gets caught in a global nightmare and must face his fears.

Superman attempts to regroup with Supercorp, but finds himself flying right into Insomnia’s global nightmare. As he falls back to Earth and into the sea, Clark awakens to find himself at the Planet and dealing with some deeply held fears that eventually lead him to a confrontation with a creature calling itself the Man of Screams.

As Superman fights back against the nightmare and is pulled into more dangerous nightmare scenarios, an unexpected ally arrives to give him a way out, but not before showing the nightmares she is trying to escape.

The Story: Williamson does a good job of bringing the reader into Superman’s fears even with the knowledge that it is ground that has been trod before. There’s not much new in Clark’s fears and not much insight in to them. The story does have some great adventure elements to it and I liked the ending a lot. Other than that, the story is hampered by trying to craft and showcase the fears of a being too powerful to have that many.

The Art: Reilly delivers some impressive art in the issue. The visuals are really engaging and I love the visual shifts through periods from past comics.
