The biggest new story in the Star Wars galaxy is coming to the big screen according to Lucasfilm.

The Mandalorian, the series that many people believed launched the popularity of Disney+, is coming from the streaming service and bringing its adventure to the big screen. Lucasfilm has announced that series producer, writer and director Jon Favreau will be producing and directing the big screen adventure of Din Djarin aka The Mandalorian and his tiny companion Grogu also known as Baby Yoda or The Child.

According to Lucasfilm, the big screen adventure will begin production this year while the fourth season of the popular series is currently in development for its return to the streaming service. The film is currently titled, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which sounds more like a buddy cop movie than the epic galaxy spanning adventure I would expect, but that’s just my opinion.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Favreau’s Mandalorian partner Dave Filoni is also bringing his own Star Wars film to the big screen along with the return of Rey Skywalker in a new film from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
