More DC Universe casting news is out today as the Stargirl series adds another star.

According to an exclusive in Variety, actor Joel McHale has been cast as Sylvester Pemberton aka Starman in the upcoming series based on the character created by Geoff Johns.

According to the Variety story, McHale will be playing the Golden Age Starman in a recurring role on the series.

Starman is a member of the Justice Society of America and wields the cosmic staff as he battles villains. His connection to Stargirl is through Starman’s sidekick and protégé Stripesy aka Pat Dugan. Dugan becomes Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl’s stepfather in the comics and on the series.

McHale is an accomplished actor and comedian known for his roles in the hit television series Community as well as his former series The Soup. His last film was Assassination Nation.

 Stargirl based on DC comic book characters created by Geoff Johns. Johns, who launched his comic book career when he created the character of Stargirl in 1999, inspired by his late sister, is also set to write the premiere episode. Johns will also serve as showrunner.
