After acquiring the rights to the Highlander franchise in 2008, Summit Entertainment has taken a huge step in taking the reboot of the 1986 original film back to the big screen. Variety and Nerdist are both reporting that Lionsgate has tapped John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski to helm the reboot. Stahelski will be taking over for Justin Lin (Star Trek: Beyond), who was originally attached to direct back in 2009.
The story and adventures of the immortal Scottish warrior Connor McLeod spawned four sequels and three television series. The original film, directed by Russell Mulcahy starred Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown and Sean Connery. No word on the cast of the upcoming reboot or a release date has been given as of this report.
Stahelski’s latest film will be John Wick 2, a sequel to the 2014 surprise hit. It’s release date is February 2nd. Stahelski’s co-director David Leitch has been confirmed to be directing the Deadpool sequel for Fox.
