Some bells cannot be un-rung.

One of Aaron’s biggest secrets is revealed and Isadora is confronted by an old woman claiming to be her mother. Iz is naturally confused and cannot understand what is happening as the woman tells her that she and her sisters have power. The moment if revelation is broken by Aaron who has picked up some tricks of his own. Aaron is loathsome as a character, but there is something entertaining in his 50’s era condescension towards Isadora.

Hex-Wives-3-Comic-Preview-2

The next morning Isadora wakes up without any memory of what happened the night before and after making breakfast for her husband, Aaron goes off to the secret underground facility they are using to monitor the town and their wives. The inner workings of the plot to keep these powerful women sedate are complex and when the ladies decide to have a minor revolt and brave the wildfires raging around their cul-de-sac, Aaron and his crew leap into action with a risky plan to show just how dangerous leaving can be.

The story is getting more intense in this issue and the cracks in Aaron’s plan continue to grow. Ben Blacker continues to craft an engaging and fun story with Hex Wives. Each issue, including this one, fills the reader with anticipatory interest. I’m locked in with the characters and the plot so much that emotional reactions to certain moments are not uncommon. It’s that interesting and entertaining a story.

Mirka Andolfo’s art is always brilliant and this issue is no exception. There are some truly disturbing and beautiful images in this issue especially the moments with Isadora as well as the shocking end of this issue. I can’t wait to see what happens next for these characters.
