Earlier this year we reported that a writer’s room was being established to craft a new film pitting this biggest monsters on-screen together. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Brothers brought in a group of writers including Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), J.D. Payne (Star Trek: Beyond) and Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski to craft a story for Godzilla vs Kong.
With the success of the 2014 Godzilla film and the continuing success of Kong: Skull Island, the studios want to start the ball rolling on this epic slug fest. So they have also announced a director for the feature set for release in 2020. The Hollywood Reporter got the exclusive news that You’re Next director Adam Wingard would be helming the film. Wingard most recently directed a reboot of Blair Witch and the Death Note adaptation for Netflix.
The next outing for Godzilla will be the sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters which is currently in production. Godzilla vs Kong is scheduled for release May 22, 2020.
