The creators and showrunners of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones are about to travel from the shores of Westeros to a galaxy far, far away.
According to multiple sources including i09, Huffington Post, The Hollywood Reporter and others, the next chapter in the Star Wars universe after the release of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ this December will be shaped by Game of Thrones creators and showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.
Walt Disney Company chairman Bob Iger confirmed the news at the Moffett Nathanson Media & Communications summit today as well as confirming a 2022 release year. According to i09, Iger said; “We did a deal with David Benioff and D.B Weiss, who are famous for ‘Game of Thrones,’ and the next movie that we release will be theirs,”.
Details about Benioff and Weiss’ new trilogy are unknown, but it is said that the new films will break from the Skywalker bloodline and focus on a different set of characters in the Star Wars universe.
A new trilogy headed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is still in development, but now we know which trilogy will debut first.
So what do you think of Benioff and Weiss bringing their new trilogy to audiences first? What would you like to see from a new Star Wars trilogy? Let me know in the comments below.
