The Rundown: Thomas Wayne will confront the ghosts of his past as he ponders if his world is worth saving.

Thomas Wayne wonders if anything he’s doing for the city is actually working as the demands of his life continue to annoy him. When Gordon comes to him with a case involving the Joker, Thomas goes to see Judge Harvey Dent about the kidnapping of his twins. A case that Thomas will decide requires his personal attention as Batman. A case that will take him to the depths of Gotham where he finds himself facing off against Killer Croc. A confrontation that will show how dark this dark knight has become.

Gordon’s investigation yields a possible lead. A lead that will lead Gordon to make a fatal and deadly error. An error that Batman will be too late to prevent as he confronts a Joker with a dark connection to his past. A connection that will bring Thomas’ world full circle.

The Story: Azzarello delivers a dark, gritty and intense story in this issue. The world of the characters is engaging and the story has some great emotional tones that keep the reader engaged. The plot is compelling and I love seeing familiar characters and relationships given a new life. The plot has great character moments as well as teases of bigger things and themes to explore.

The Art: Risso delivers some fantastic art in this issue. The visual style perfectly captures the gritty, dark tone of the story and its flawed characters.
