Admittedly, I have been on the fence about this project since it was announced. I never felt a series about the doomed planet of Krypton was worth telling because the conclusion, no matter the circumstances leading up to it, was always certain. From a pure sci-fi fan position though, the trailer for Krypton looks interesting.
The trailer opens with a voice over of a man speaking to his grandson Kal El. This is an interesting and actually believable plot point since Superman’s grandparents story was never really explored in the story and there is the possibility that his grandfather could have been alive at the time of his birth on the planet. The voice over sets up the story going forward that it will be about Kal’s grandfather as a young man during a time of political upheaval on the planet.
The production seems to be leaning into the science fiction narrative with ships and huge cities. There are even nods to future events in Superman canon, including what might be a bottled city. Check it out for yourself and tell me what you think.
