It’s been widely reported through multiple outlets that Marvel President Kevin Feige has been actively courting actor Keanu Reeves to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years.
While Reeves has never actively stated whether he would or not, that hasn’t stopped speculation of who Reeves could play going into the next phase of the MCU. With that in mind, here are my Top Five Marvel characters Keanu Reeves could portray for Marvel Studios.
Namor the Sub-Mariner
For the last few years, many have speculated that Namor would be making his debut on the big screen. Created by Bill Everett in 1939, Namor has had a long history in the Marvel universe as well as a connection to Captain America as a member of the World War II team the Invaders. The brooding king of Atlantis could definitely become part of the MCU in a post-snap universe and Keanu Reeves would be a great fit for the role. Reeves can pull off the physicality and personality of the character as well as bring something new and different to it given the right script and director.
With the MCU having multiple space based stories with Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel, there is definite room for a another. The Richard Rider version of Nova could add another layer to the expanding cosmic storylines and connect both Guardians and Captain Marvel via the Nova Corps. Reeves could take on the role of the adult Rider with flashbacks serving as a way to fill in the story of his life and the evolution of his powers.
The Fantastic Four and the X-Men have been returned to Marvel Studios via the Disney/Fox merger and plans of a return of Marvel’s first family are no doubt in the works. The Fantastic Four on the big screen has not had an illustrious history fluctuating from too comedic to too serious, but I’m sure Feige and company could craft a story that emphasizes both family and scientific adventure. Reeves would make an interesting Reed Richards in a Fantastic Four film. He could definitely pull off the empathy Reed feels towards his best friend Ben as well as the guilt he feel for causing the changes in the people he loves. It will be even more interesting to see if Reeves can pull of the lighter more family focused moments that a FF film requires.
Along the same lines as Reed Richards, Keanu Reeves could play another character connected to the Fantastic Four and one of the biggest cosmic threats to the Marvel Universe. Created by Jack Kirby, Norrin Radd is a scientist from the planet Zenn-La. In order to save his planet and the people he loves, Norrin agrees to become the herald of the world destroying Galactus. Imbued with the power cosmic, Silver Surfer is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe. Reeves could portray the character perfectly with the quiet dignity and emotional detachment Surfer is known for.
Everyone is speculating that Keanu Reeves could be brought in to play Marvel’s Moon Knight and they are right to do so. Created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, Marc Spector aka Moon Knight is an expert detective and martial artist imbued with a shifting power set over the years. He’s always been one of the more interesting characters in the Marvel universe and has dealt with everything from super-villains to mental health issues. Reeves could definitely embody the psychological and physical aspects of Spector and could play the character pitch-perfectly.
