WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service has nabbed a huge new series from the director of Blade Runner 2049 and the upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Denis Villeneuve will direct the pilot episode of a new straight to series drama called Dune: The Sisterhood. The series is a female-focused take on Frank Herbert’s original novel. In the novel, Herbert introduced the order of the Bene Gesserits. A group of powerful women, the Bene Gesserits navigate the politics and intrigue of the empire with their own agenda.
“The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me. Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring but a dynamic setting for the television series,” Villeneuve said.
Villeneuve has written, produced and directed the upcoming adaptation of Herbert’s original novel and he will also direct the pilot episode of the new series which is being written by Jon Spaihts. Both Spaihts and Villeneuve will executive produce the series.
WarnerMedia’s currently untitled streaming service is set to launch in beta at the end of this year.
