Fans of Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking sci-fi film and its recent, highly successful sequel are in for a treat.
According to Deadline and other sources, anime studio Crunchy Roll and Adult Swim will produce and distribute a new animated series based in the world of Blade Runner.
The series, titled Blade Runner – Black Lotus and inspired by Blade Runner 2049, will have an order of 13 half-hour episodes and will be directed by Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo)is a creative producer.
Adult Swim will have the worldwide distribution rights to the series. “I first saw Blade Runner in 1982, at age 11. It has remained one of the defining films of my life,” said Jason DeMarco, svp/creative director of Adult Swim on-air. “To be able to explore more of this universe, with the incredible talent we have on board, is a dream come true.”
No additional information has been given for the series at the time of this article, but I will continue to follow its development.
